Q) When should I use a moisture tolerant self-levelling compound?
A) You should use moisture tolerant self-levelling compounds like ARDITEX CL PLUS+ in these conditions:
- Damp Environments
It prevents moisture from seeping through the floor, crucial in areas prone to dampness like bathrooms and kitchens.
- Durability
Enhances the longevity of the flooring by resisting moisture damage.
- Smooth Surface
Provides a smooth, level surface for subsequent flooring installations, ensuring better adhesion and finish.
- Versatility
Suitable for various substrates, including concrete and sand/cement screeds.
Q) Does Arditex CL+ need a primer?
A) Generally speaking, no, Arditex CL Plus does not require the substrate to be primed prior to application. You can apply Arditex CL Plus directly to most substrates without priming, including old adhesive residues and bitumen, ARDEX Damp Proof Membranes, and ceramic tiles.
On absorbent surfaces, it may be necessary to damp down the surface with water before applying the mixed ARDITEX CL PLUS+, ensuring there is no standing water, to help reduce suction and pinholes. If mixes with a high aggregate content require smoothing or if a subsequent layer is required to the standard mix, the dried ARDITEX CL PLUS+ will usually require damping down or priming.
Priming should be carried out with ARDEX P 51 diluted 1:3 with water. The ARDEX P 51 must be applied by broom or brush and not with a roller and allowed to dry prior to applying the ARDITEX CL PLUS+.
Q) Is Arditex CL+ moisture tolerant?
A) Yes, ARDITEX CL PLUS+ is moisture tolerant. It is designed to be unaffected by moisture, making it suitable for use directly on damp concrete and in areas prone to dampness, such as bathrooms and kitchens. This feature enhances the durability and longevity of the flooring by resisting moisture damage.
Q) How long does it take for Arditex CL+ to dry?
A) ARDITEX CL PLUS+ dries relatively quickly. Under good conditions, a 3mm layer is walkable after just 2 hours and ready to receive most floorcoverings in as little as 8 hours.
Q) What is Ardex CL?
A) Ardex CL is a latex levelling and smoothing compound designed for use on internal subfloors such as concrete, cement/sand, and gypsum (anhydrite) screeds. It is a two-part smoothing compound that includes a powder and a latex liquid. When mixed the liquid latex and powder provides excellent flow and application properties.
Some key features include:
Quick Drying: It can be walked on in as little as 2 hours.
Floorcovering Installation: Most floorcoverings can be applied after 12 hours.
Versatile Use: Suitable for use on heated screeds and various subfloor types.
It’s particularly valued for its ease of use and fast setting time, making it a popular choice for both residential and commercial flooring projects.
Q) Do I need to seal concrete before using self-levelling compound?
A) Yes, it is generally recommended to seal concrete before applying a self-levelling compound.
Here are a few reasons why:
Dust Control: Sealing helps to bind any dust on the surface, ensuring better adhesion of the self-levelling compound.
Moisture Barrier: It can act as a moisture barrier, preventing issues with the self-levelling compound curing properly.
Improved Bonding: A primer or sealer can enhance the bond between the concrete and the self-levelling compound.
We recommend using ARDEX P 51 Primer, diluted 1:3 with water. The ARDEX P 51 must be applied by broom or brush and not with a roller and allowed to dry prior to applying the ARDITEX CL PLUS+.
Make sure to follow the instructions for both the primer and the self-levelling compound to achieve the best results.
Q) Is Arditex CL plus moisture tolerant?
A) Yes, ARDITEX CL PLUS+ is moisture tolerant. It is designed to be applied directly to damp subfloors, provided they are free of surface water. This makes it suitable for use under a damp proof membrane (DPM) and in areas where moisture is a concern
Q) Can you put a DPM under self-levelling compound?
A) Yes, you can put a damp proof membrane (DPM) under a self-levelling compound.
When using ARDITEX CL PLUS, it’s recommended to use an ARDEX Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) underneath. ARDITEX CL PLUS is designed to be applied directly over ARDEX DPMs without the need for priming. This combination ensures excellent adhesion and moisture tolerance, making it suitable for various subfloors, including concrete, cement/sand screeds, and bitumen.
Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from any debris or other contaminants before applying the DPM.
Type of DPM: Both liquid and sheet DPMs can be used. We recommend ARDEX DPM 1 C or ARDEX DPM 1 C R is applied. For residual moisture conditions, up to 95% RH, we recommend ARDEX MVS 95, which protects the final floorcovering from residual construction moisture, ensuring quick flooring installations.
