ARDEX Undertakes Charity Project for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

ARDITEX NA was chosen for its versatility, and ability to cover problem subfloors with minimal preparation, ensuring disruption to the hospital and its patients was kept to a minimum

ARDEX Undertakes Charity Project for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Birmingham Children’s Hospital was founded in 1862 and now offers the widest range of child health services for young patients in the West Midlands and beyond.  The hospital is renowned for its excellence in providing outstanding care and treatment to its patients.

With over 257,000 patients a year, 360 beds and 3,500 staff, the hospital is inundated with visitors and therefore required a much needed refurbishment to its main entrance lobby and café in order to maintain such standards.

The hospital café offers patients and their families a quiet place to take a break and escape from the realities of life at hospital.  In order to maintain this experience, Birmingham Children’s Hospital made the decision to refurbish the café floor and reception entrance to accommodate the vast amount of patients and visitors every day and to provide a welcome new look.

Pinnacle was the chosen flooring contractor who worked with Karndean Designflooring, the floorcovering supplier, as part of their 40th birthday celebrations, to supply and fit the flooring. Both companies worked with ARDEX and donated their services and products for free to support the hospital and its patients. Chris Jennings, Director at Pinnacle said, “Due to the outstanding work carried out by the hospital, we were keen to deliver excellent products and services. Karndean Designflooring were able to supply the flooring and Pinnacle could fit it, however we were in need of a levelling compound to complete the project in the short time frame given.”

“Having worked closely with ARDEX over the last 12 months, they were the perfect choice to approach as we have come to know their products well and expect nothing less than excellence from the company.”

The product used for the project was ARDITEX NA, a two part levelling and smoothing compound that covers virtually any subfloor without the need for extensive preparation and priming, saving the contractor both time and money.

Ricky McNamara, ARDEX Area Sales Manager, explained “After visiting the site, it was clear that the levelling compound needed to be versatile, rapid setting, and have the ability to cover problem areas on the subfloor, in order to ensure minimal disruption to the hospital and its patients. ARDITEX NA was the perfect option as it fitted this criteria and offered peace of mind for the client.”

Chris added, “We were impressed with the performance of ARDITEX NA. Like many refurbishments, adhesive residue from the previous floor were still present, but we were able to apply ARDITEX NA over these without the need for any priming or mechanical preparation, therefore completing the project swiftly.”
