Old Street Station – London
ARDEX products have played a crucial role in the transformation of Old Street Station in central London.
Transport for London’s aim for the station was to create a safer, more welcoming environment for every traveller.
A crucial interchange station at the junction of Old Street and City Road for London Underground and National Rail services, the station was original opened in 1901, before being rebuilt in 1925 and again in 1968 replacing all surface buildings with a subsurface complex.
It was redeveloped again in 2014, before the latest refurbishment by Morgan Sindall Construction.
Tiling and finishing work was carried out by DMC Contracts on behalf of Morgan Sindall, with the station remaining open and accessible throughout the entire process.
DMC’s scope of work was extensive and included the use of a number of ARDEX products.
Floor surfaces were screeded with ARDEX A 38 screed, before Agglo Granazzocem C02 agglomerate granite tiles were fixed with ARDEX X 78 semi-pourable tile adhesive.
Walls were rendered with ARDEX AM 100 rapid-drying render, incorporating steel vertical and horizontal trims, before being finished with a final coat of ARDEX A 125 Fairing Coat.
Adam Willmott, Head of Business Development at ARDEX said: “This was a great project to be involved with and we are delighted that ARDEX systems were used throughout the renovation by our friends at DMC Contracts.
“As an approved supplier for Transport for London (TfL) we have supplied products to many London Underground projects including the award-winning Elizabeth Line.
“ARDEX products are perfect for use at train and tube stations, because they can be installed quickly and perform to a high standard. This is important because station closures can lead to revenue losses.
“Our Fast Track Products allow station flooring to be screeded, tiled and ready to receive traffic between the last train at night and the first train the very next morning.”
