ARDEX Tiles Adhesives and Grouts prove themselves once again, and deliver without the need for additional primers or admixes

Dundee’s New £31m Olympia Swimming Pool is Ready to Make a Splash

ARDEX were delighted to work in partnership with specialist tiling contractor, The Tiling Company Northern, to supply the ideal tile fixing solution for the completion of a new swimming pool facility at Dundee’s £31m Olympia Leisure Centre.

The new building replaced the old Olympia Centre and includes a competition pool, toddler pool, and a wave and rapid river pool complete with the latest high-tech flumes for thrill seekers.

ARDEX MICROTEC X 77 Flexible Floor & Wall Tile Adhesive was the ideal solution for fixing all of the tiles in the new swimming pool, showers and changing rooms.  ARDEX MICROTEC X 77 has an extended open time of up to 60 minutes, which means you can spread larger areas of adhesive in a single application, enabling fixers to work more efficiently, and allowing more time when tiling awkward areas, or cutting around fixtures and fittings in the pool and pool surrounds.

For a waterproof finish that is hygienic and impervious to chemical attack, ARDEX E G 8 Cement/Epoxy Hybrid Grout was used for the tile joints.  Unlike traditional epoxy grouts, ARDEX EG 8 is easy to apply, requires no special tools and can be cleaned off the tile surface up to 45 minutes after application.

Chris Hutton from The Tiling Company Northern said “ARDEX products are extremely popular with our fixers as they are tried and tested in swimming pool installations.  Furthermore, by specifying ARDEX X MICROTEC 77, we can confidently use one product for all areas, with no need for additional primers or additives.”

Minister for Sport Shona Robison said the complex would be a “Superb addition” to leisure facilities in Dundee, and it is hoped that this facility ‘will not only increase participation, but it will improve performance and deliver a lasting legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.”
