ARDEX Helps the Heroes with Recovery Centre Refurb

Help for Heroes is a British charity launched in 2007 which aims to provide lifelong support to wounded, injured and sick British service personnel.  Tedworth House is one of four recovery centres run by Help for Heroes, and forms part of the Defence Recovery Capability programme.

Tedworth House recovery centre is a fully adapted facility with rooms for sport, education, relaxation and socialising.  It is also home to the Phoenix Centre, a state of the art gym complex with some of the UKs most advanced adaptive sport facilities.

The first priority was new flooring and MnD Floors Ltd was the chosen contractor, working alongside ARDEX to complete the project swiftly and efficiently.  Dave Schofield, Project Manager at MnD Floors Ltd said, “We have worked with ARDEX on numerous projects and every time they demonstrate their expertise.  We knew that with their guidance and products, we could deliver the needs of the project.”

Following on site moisture testing is was discovered that when the centre was originally built the existing floor had the final floorcoverings laid before the concrete base had time to dry out; this meant moisture from the subfloor caused damage to the final floorcovering.  To address the issue of moisture in the subfloor, ARDEX DPM 1 C R , a Rapid Curing One Coat Surface Damp Proof Membrane was used prior to the application of ARDITEX NA, direct, without priming.

Kevin Gale, ARDEX Area Sales Manager, explained, “After visiting the centre, it was clear that the products needed to be versatile rapid setting in order to create minimal disruption. Our recommendation of ARDEX DPM 1 C R and ARDITEX NA was the perfect system to combat the moisture in subfloor, and guarantee the early laying of the flooring.”
